Last Friday night members of the Horgan family and Kickhams GAA club handed over a cheque for €12,400 to South Tipperary Hospice Movement at a function in The Venue, Dundrum House Hotel.
Richie and Breda Horgan, Knockavilla, passed away in 2013, but both availed of the services of the hospice movement and as a token of their appreciation the family, in conjunction with the local Kickhams club, decided to run a golf classic in memory of Richie and Breda and to raise much needed funds for hospice.
The wheels were set in motion early in July with the launch in the Horse and Jockey Hotel by Tipperary’s Liam Sheedy and Eoin Kelly, and the resulting hard work culminated with the staging of the event in Dundrum Golf Club from August 13-15.
The planned two days being extended to three to accommodate the huge level of support. A total of 106 teams took part, and combined with the sponsorship of tee boxes, made it one the most successful golf classics held at the Dundrum club.
Goods and service in most cases were supplied on a voluntary basis and the main sponsors were Butler Centra, Dundrum and Allbright Roadmarking, the Horgan family business.
The organisers would like all those who helped in any way to make the event an outstanding success.
