Cookery Demonstration - Emeralds Camogie Club are holding a ‘Cookery Demonstration’ by well known freelance chef Edward Hayden from TV3’s ‘Ireland AM‘ in the Community Hall, Urlingford on Thursday, May 16th at 8pm. Sympathy - The death has taken place at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny of Mrs. Mary Murphy (nee Cain), St Kieran’s Homes for the Elderly, Urlingford and formerly of Sevensisters, Johnstown. She belonged to a highly respected family and was the last surviving member of one of Urlingford’s great families. She was a quiet, outgoing lady who always had a smile for everyone. She was held in the highest esteem and this bore testimony to the large attendance at the Rosary and the removal of the remains from Doyle’s Funeral Home to Church of the Assumption, Urlingford. After Requiem Mass, burial took place in Johnstown Cemetery. Deeply regretted by her sorrowing sons John, Martin and Thomas, daughters Mary and Bernie, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.
The death has taken place at The News, Rosedale, Kilmacow and formerly of Main St, Urlingford of Mr Eddie Curran, son of the late Eddie and Susan Curran, Main St. He passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff and his carers at the Brothers of Charity. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and staff at Mews, Rosedale. Deeply regretted by his loving brothers Aidan and Liam, sisters Teresa (Wickham), Mary (Murphy) and Susan (Kirwan), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunt, relatives and close friends. Remains were removed to Church of the Assumption, Urlingford and after Requiem Mass burial took place in Johnstown Cemetery.
The death has taken place suddenly, at her sons residence in Wexford, of Mrs. Bridget Crean (nee English) of St Joseph’s Tce., Urlingford. The news of her death caused much regret on Friday morning as she was held in the highest esteem. She was a lovely lady who loved a chat and meeting people. She will be sadly missed, not alone by her family but by her neighbours in St Joseph’s Tce., and all her friends in Urlingford. This bore testimony to the high attendance at the removal of the Remains from Doyle’s Funeral Home to Church of the Assumption, Urlingford and after Requiem Mass, burial took place in Fennor Cemetery. Deeply regretted by her loving sons Jimmy and Tony, daughters Margaret, Carmel and Angela, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and a circle of friends in Urlingford. May they rest in peace.

Urlingford Library - Had a brilliant children’s Easter Colouring Competition. Everyone had great fun colouring in Easter eggs, bunnies and lamb pictures which we displayed in the Children’s Room. It was a riot of colour!! The winners are: Lucy Pollard. Billy Campion, John Mullally, Sarah Phelan, Ellen Wall and Niamh Campion. Congratulations to our lucky winners. Urlingford Library would love to set up a weekly sewing and knitting spot in the library. If you are anyway crafty at all we would love to meet you. Join with other like-minded crafters. Kilkenny Age Friendly - County programme is available to provide “Ageing with Confidence” in your area. The 8 weeks workshop is a personal development programme designed to help people over 55 explore their ageing process. The programme is run by two trained facilitators and looks at all aspects of ageing including physical, emotional and intellectual. The workshop is free of charge and is usually run at local community/parish centres. Enquires welcome from community centres/individuals and groups. Tea Party - Anna Danielle’s are hosting an Alzheimer’s Tea Party on Thursday, May 9, please feel free to come along and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with freshly baked cakes baked by the Anna Danielle’s team. Let’s see if we are as good at baking cakes as we are at cutting hair! We will also be raffling spot prizes on the day. All donations going to the Alzheimer’s Society for the Kilkenny area. Mill Family Resource Centre - Co. Kilkenny VEC Adult Education Centre Free Taster – One Day Workshops. Skills for Employment/Further Education. Co. Kilkenny VEC in partnership with the Family Resource Network throughout the City and County are hosting a number of Workshops each Tuesday (7th May to 11th June). The emphasis in all of the workshops will be on giving an overview of the subject area in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. On completion of the workshops participants will be offered the opportunity to apply for a range of part-time/full-time FETAC accredited courses on offer. Participants can attend one or more of the workshops on offer. Adult Faith Development - Ossory Faith Fest 2013. Celebrating Faith in Ossory, May 10th-12th, have produced a ‘Passport of Faith’ to encourage people to travel around the diocese to visit parishes and see some of what they have to offer. The Passport Booklet is free and is available in the church porch. At Faith Fest those who have visited 5 or more parishes can apply for a Certificate of Pilgrimage which the Faith Development group will issue.
Ossory Times - The 2nd edition of the Ossory Times is available for sale at a cost of €2.
The Gathering - As part of The Gathering the parish of Graine and Urlingford are organizing a weekend of activities in August, full details to be finalised. One of these is to have an exhibition of photos in both Graine and Urlingford, which reflects the history of the Parish, and it’s people. We are looking for photos, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, photos of anyone who served in any of the wars or in the army. Any photos of Gardai, Priests or Doctors etc. If you do not want these photos to leave your home we can arrange for someone to call and copy them in your home.
