Mary Foley was an outstanding woman, with sharp wit and a great sense of humour to those who knew her well.
Mary was born in Thurles and raised in Templemore, the eldest of the Quills from Parkview. Mary moved to London at a very young age and met her soulmate Micheal, (formerly Co. Kerry), they wed in Kentish town. Having four children to raise, Micheal, Jackie, Maureen and Audrey they moved to Luton where Mary took two jobs as a telephonist in the G.P.O. and going on to be a Care worker in Redhill Nursing Home.
Mary’s life was all about other people, she organised and raised money to send the sick and elderly to Lourdes with a company called Accross. Her days were spent organising fund raisers, car boot sales, baking and sponsored walks. Her greatest passion in life was to knit.
Mary would raise money for the homeless shelter and was presented with many awards. Her time was also given on Christmas Day where she would hand out dinners to those less fortunate than herself.
Mary and Mick returned to Templemore on retirement in 2002. They have eight grandchildren and she missed being a great grandmother by one week. Mary was rewarded for all her hard work by her daughter Audrey coming back from Australia to look after her in her last years and her cat Coco Chanel.
May they both rest in peace and will be loved forever in our hearts.
