Concert - On Saturday May 4 the local Ború Community Singers, directed by Sadie Scanlan, will host a Choral Concert in St. Flannan’s Cathedral, commencing at 8pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Spring Clean - Ballina/Killaloe National Spring Clean will take place on this Saturday, April 27. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Library at 11pm and should bring gloves/pickers (if they have them). Please contact (087) 3188934 for further details

Boher Spring Clean - The proposed Spring Clean of School/Church grounds has been deferred. This will now take place on Wednesday, May 1 commencing at 10am. Adult volunteers will be most appreciated and should give their names to any member of staff.

Coast Guard Activities - The pupils of Killaloe Boys’ Primary School paid a visit to the local Killaloe Coast Guard Unit recently. They were also given a Water Safety presentation, which covered Swimming in both Sea and River. On Tuesday, April 16 the Unit was tasked by Valentia Coast Guard (Marine Rescue Sub Centre) after a call from a member of the public reported a speedboat adrift near Killaloe. A quick response from the Unit took control of the vessel, which was brought to safe mooring.

Art/Poetry - The National Texaco Children’s Art Competition, This year a young boy in Junior Infants at Ballina Primary School, Matthew Ryan received a Special Merit Award in the Category F Section for children six years and younger. Congratulations to Matthew!

“Handwriting” Winner - The 2013 INTO/EBS Handwriting competition attracted well over 100,000 entries from Primary Schools nationwide. A Ballina ‘Senior Infant’, Sadie Fennell, 50 The Brook, was the County winner in the Senior Infant category. Congratulations, Sadie!

Tea Day - National Alzheimer’s Tea Day will take place on Thursday, May 9. You are invited to join with staff and friends of Waterman’s Daycare and Respite Centre on that special day from 10am. Further details will follow next week.

Rugby - A most enjoyable “Family” afternoon in St. Anne’s Community College grounds marked the end of the season for the young players on Saturday, April 6. Activities included mini rugby blitz for all age groups: skills competition: coaches/committee v parents in tag rugby: presentation of awards by Brendan Foley.
