Sympathy is extended to the Tynan family, Rockview, Borris in Ossory on the tragic death of Kieran Tynan, Lisacul, Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon. The late Kieran, who was only in his early twenties, died following an accident, while working in Australia. His remains were brought back to his home in Ballaghadereen where they reposed from Wednesday November 16 until removal on Friday morning to Christ the King Church, Lisacul for Funeral Mass followed by burial in Lisacul Cemetery.

The late Kieran is deeply regretted by his parents Margaret and Martin, sister Noelle, brothers John Joe and Fergal, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours. His father Martin is from Rockview, Borris in Ossory where his mother Breda and his brother Dick still live and his mother was formerly Margaret Madden from Turfarney, Rathdowney, Co Laois.

Kieran, who had only gone to Australia to seek work a few weeks before the tragic accident, received his early education at the Mercy Convent School, Borris in Ossory before the family moved to Co Roscommon. The entire area was shocked on learning the news of his tragic death. May he rest in peace.


Borris-In-Ossory Women’s Walking Group have chosen to buy equipment for two ICU wards in Beaumont Hospital where two of their members were treated recently, as their charity for 2012. They started their fundraising for 2012 with the annual Halloween Fancy Dress which took place in Rosie O’Grady’s on Sunday October 30. It was a very successful event, 1st prize for Best Costume went to Tadgh Finlay, 2nd Jamie Ryan and 3rd Edel Sheridan. The door prize was won by Patricia Grimwood. Thanks is extended to John Gaffney (Rosie O’Grady’s) who sponsored the band Abbeyfolk and also for the use of his premises, thanks to Sals Diner for sponsoring and supplying the hot food and to all the walkers who sold tickets, sponsored spot prizes and supplied the sandwiches. The Walking Group also wishes to thank the following local shops who sponsored spot prizes – Costcutters, Midland Tyres, Drennans Pub and Drennans Family Butchers.


The Women’s Walking Group are holding a Shave, Wax or Dye night in the New Year in aid of Laois Sports Partnership “Providing Sport and physical activities for people with disabilities in Laois”. The Walkers are looking for men and women volunteers to be shaved, waxed or dyed for this worthy cause. Borris-In-Ossory Santa Claus Club is holding a Fundraising Cabaret in Rosie O’Grady’s on Saturday 17 December. Music by ‘Carmel Minogue. Tickets will cost €5 and will be available at Rosie O’Grady’s and from committee members. Door Prize will be €30. All proceeds on the night will go towards Santa’s visit to Borris-In-Ossory on Sunday 18 December. A great night’s entertainment is assured so please come along and support this worthy cause.

Santa Claus will visit O’Keeffe Park, Borris-In-Ossory GAA Grounds on Sunday 18 December at 2pm. This will include Disco, Face Painting, Gifts and surprises for all from Santa and for the parents there will be a cup of tea and a creamy bun!

An admission fee of €5 per child will be taken up on the day and a portion of this will be allocated to a local charity. All are welcome.


Borris in Ossory GAA Club will hold a fund raising Race Night in Rosie O’Gradys on Saturday night November 26. Horses and jockeys are now available from committee members. It is hoped to get good support for this venture.


The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.
