Molaimíd go hard na spéire an fhoireann díospóireachta a bhuaigh an Craobh Réigiúnach sa Chomórtas Díospóireachta Gael Linn! Congratulations to the Irish debating team who fought off keen opposition from Loreto Clonmel, St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny and Knockbeg College, Carlow in the Gael Linn debating regional final last Monday, 25th February in the Dolmen Hotel Carlow. The team proposed the motion “Tá an stát seo ró-fhlaithiúil lena chúnamh don triú domhan” – “This state is too generous with their aid to the third world”.
Having progressed in local rounds against Cistercian College Roscrea and Ursline Secondary School, Thurles the team met Loreto, Bray and Ardscoil na Tríonóide, Athy in the following rounds.
The team, consisting of third year students Caoimhe O’Dowd (captain), Roisín Ryan and Anna Bergin and their tutor Ms Stanley are currently enjoying a well-deserved break before they begin preparations for the All-Ireland Final at the end of the month.
Gael Linn debating is an integral part of the extra-curricular programme in the Pres and the school is no stranger to success. The school has reached the All-Ireland on numerous occasions and having lost the final by a narrow margin last year, the team are hungry to regain the Gael Linn cup, which they won in 2011, 2007 and 2006.
Táimíd fíor bhrodúil as Roinn na Gaeilge a chothaigh ard caighdéan Gaeilge sa scoil thar na blianta “Beatha teanga í a labhairt” mar a deireann an seanfhocal.
Comhghairdeas libh go léir agus go n-éirí go geal libh i gCraobh na hÉireann ag deireadh na míosa!
