0-9 from sharp shooter Pat Shortt sees the Upperchurch Drombane men have the last laugh

Upperchurch Drombane 0-20

Drom-Inch 1-13

No Seamus Callanan or James Woodlock for Drom-Inch in this county senior hurling championship tie at Templetuohy this evening, and they were made to suffer their absence, when Upperchuch Drombane proved the better side in this opener.

Last years mid finalists had 0-9 from attacker Pat Shortt as they led by 0-14 to 1-5 at the interval. However, the scoreline could have been much more stark for the Drom-Inch lads, who played into the teeth of the breeze in the first half, had it not been for a Stevie Nolan goal and a David Butler point within four minutes of the half time whistle.

The scores buoyed Drom-Inch and they reeled off points after the break too to leave just four in it heading into the last quarter. However, Upperchurch Drombane, who were without forward Paul Ryan who is in the US, steadied the ship and recorded a deserved three point victory to get their campaign off to the perfect start.
