Spirited Loughmore Castleiney have dumped county and Munster club champions Clonmel Commercials out of the Tipperary championship at semi-final stage following a pulsating contest this afternoon.

A tough uncompromising contest saw the mid men hold out for another famous win in Boherlahan and they will face Moyle Rovers in the county final after they had a big win over Kilsheelan Kilcash in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile in the intermediate hurling championship, Newport defeated Thurles Sarsfields by 1-17 to 0-15 in Dundrum to win back their senior status after more than a decade. A goal from corner forward Eoin McCormack early in the game helped Newport to a 1-11 to 0-10 interval advantage. And, though Sarsfields came back hard at them in the second half, Newport held out, consigning The Blues to a third consecutive defeat in the final at this grade.

Sarsfields seniors now know that they will face Ballygunner in next Sunday's Munster senior clulb quarter final in Semple Stadium. The 'Gunners had a big win over Passage in the Waterford final this afternoon to, similar to Sars', complete a three-in-a-row.
