Last Saturday 21 January, 2012 saw three Lough Derg FC (Ballina/Killaloe) teams in North Tipperary Schoolchildrens Football League (NTSFL) away league action.
Lough Derg’s u10s, playing away in their first match u10 Premier division since last November, lost 7-4 to a skillful and well organized Templemore FC side.
The LDFC team faced both the elements and a determined home side who went ahead early in the match. Lough Derg scored an equaliser through Dara King, but most of the half was spent defending the LDFC goal line with a number of brave saves from Mark Lyons, Lough Derg’s netminder.
In the second half Lough Derg FC lead by captain Josh Egan, attacked Templemore. Brian Cahill scored a well taken goal after a number of narrow misses, while Sam Loughran scored a brace, one from the penalty spot and one was a memberable driving volley from well outside the box.
Future potentially good team league players and coaches are being introduced to organised league play and structures at this formative age and with and with the amount of kids in the u6/u8 and u10 ranks it bodes well for the clubs future.
