Winning start for Scoil Eoin Naofa

Author Julian Gough, Ms Joanna Holmes, Ms Aoife Power and their classes of first class, Junior and Senior infants on his recent visit

The new school year got off to a winning start in Scoil Eoin Naofa as our 3rd and 4th class athletes took home gold medals at the Cross Country Schools Competition in Thurles last Wednesday, 26th September.
The four girls, Katelyn, Roan, Kate and Leatisha all finished inside the top ten to take the girls team medal. Also with medal success was Amy, who finished 3rd in the individual competition for 5th and 6th class girls. In all, 48 children from 3rd to 6th class represented the school and really enjoyed taking part and being active for the day. Well done to all involved.
There was great excitement for our younger pupils also as on September 19th Ms Holmes and Ms Power’s classes had a visitor – author Julian Gough. Julian created the Rabbit and Bear series for children. There are currently three books in the series. “Snack Attack” was the book of choice on this visit.
A very enjoyable hour was had, where Julian read to the children, sharing a lovely message of diversity, friendship and acceptance in his book. He also explained how he created his characters. We would like to thank Julian and his dad, Dick, for the wonderful visit and the beautiful wooden figurines of Rabbit and Bear that Dick carved for the classrooms.
