The Michael (Curley) Cunningham cup
Dooneen AC ran their second race of the Michael Rejmer series from the Country Club last Friday night. The weather was good and they had a fine crowd and some really good runners and some fine times. Niall Shanahan knocked a nice chunk off the course record, the An Bru AC athlete was delighted with his run and is looking forward to running the Marathon in a few weeks’ time, where a PB is surely be on the cards. This course is right on the edge of the city easy to get to and a nice quite route on country roads, plenty of parking and a well organised event with chip timing. The first race in the Active series is on this route on Friday the 27th of April so if you want a preview just head along any Friday night and see if you can better your time on the night.
There is a promise of better weather at the weekend so if you are looking for some place nice to take the children and your other half, consider going to the Bike centre just outside Ardpatrick. If you are interested in mountain biking this place is a state of the art facility. All you need is a mountain bike and some safety gear and away you go, if you don’t have a bike you can hire one at the centre and head out on the world class trails. If you are not into cycling there are plenty other options. If you have small children, there is a Nature trail looped walk of 2km where you search for hidden animals in the woods and learn more about them. There are loads of trails that you can walk or run on and if you have some fit lads with you there is a Trim trail, which is an outdoor Gym, full of obstacles to test your level of fitness. The trim trail is up the trail just over half a kilometre and is 2.4 kilometres from start to finish. There are also some permanent orienteering trails if you have a compass handy.
The Second race in the Ballyhoura Active series will be in Galbally and it will be the Michael (Curley) Cunningham 4 miler. We have a brand new cup which Kennelly Jewellers in Limerick helped sponsor for the race. I would like to thank Robbie for all his help in sorting it for us and if you want to run on the night you can now pre-register online on www.premiertimingsystems.ie
