Two players Paul Collison and Eamon Kelly finished with 44 pts in the Wednesday Open last week. This was great scoring in the very wet course conditions. Eamon’s score included birdies at the 6th and 11th but Paul’s two chip-ins for birdies at the 16th and 18th just clinched it for him on the back nine. Paul played very steady golf but that bit of magic around the green made all the difference. Shane Gleeson recovered from his blank at the first to birdie the third and finished on 39 pts. Shane Hogan had a fantastic round of 69 that included six birdies and took the gross prize.
Friday Open results: Friday 20th July: 1st: Jerry O’Dwyer (20) 45 pts; Donal Flannery (Portumna) (15) 43 pts; 3rd Jim Flynn (8) 40 pts; gross David Hunt 32 pts; seniors 1: P. J. Hayes (20) 36 pts; seniors 2: Danny Morrissey (26) 34 pts. CSS: 36 pts. Jerry O’Dwyer’s proved best with 45 pts on Friday in the open singles. His 8 pars proved best over Borrisokane’s Donal Flannery who was 8 over for his round. Jim Flynn’s 40 pts was a great score off his handicap going around in 4 over par.
Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd July Costello Oil sponsored Mogul Cup GOY: 1st Patsy Farrell (10) 68; 2nd Pat Byrne (20) 69 (back 6); Tommy Lynch (16) 69 (back 9); gross Shane Hogan 71; seniors Liam Hogan (14) 72 (back 9); 4th Ger Clifford (12) 69; 5th Gerard Carroll (10) 71 (back 9); student Hughie O’Brien (16) 72.
The Saturday players had the best of the weather conditions but this didn’t stop some of the Sunday players, in the wind, bringing in some great scores. Patsy Farrell carding his 68 to be six over on Saturday. Pat Byrne, fresh from his efforts in Portunma on Saturday, still had something in the tank on Sunday morning to bring home a 69. Tommy Lynch’s 69 saw him in third place. Shane Hogan is flying at the moment and he recorded another sub par round following on his 69 on Wednesday.
