Last weekend was one of the busiest on the course this year when we held our annual Club Classic. Held over Sat and Sun we had a fine entry and great credit is due to the committee which organised it. Thanks to all the members and visitors who played over the 2 days and despite some very difficult condititons the scoring was very impressive. Top of the class were the O Dwyer family as Gerry, Kay and Colm combined for a massive 101pts. They began well with Gerry having an eagle 3 on the second and from there on they were in cruise control, 52pts in the bag at the turn and and a 7 pointer on the 10th really had them motoring. They added 49pts to their front nine total for a lovely 101pts and a 3 point margin. On 98pts were the Loughmore men Jerry Stapleton, Tom Connolly and Tom Ryan and all three played their part in this return. Michelle Lawlor is a regular now on the prize lists and with Ciaran and Kevin Hassett they took 3rd with 95pts. In fourth on 94 pts were Denis Tuohy,Patsy Stapleton and Denis Maher and 5th place went to Canon Eugene and Fr Liam Everard playing with that man again Gerry O Dwyer. The committee would like to thank all those who prepared the course and the food in the clubhouse for the 2 days and look forward to seeing all our visitors again in the near future.
The Friday open singles is becoming the Bernie benefit as once again Mr O Rourke led the way with 36pts. There is nobody more deserving as of late he can be seen working on the mowers nearly as often as he is working on his game. Fair play Bernie, keep up the good work.
Our Ladies Minor cup team head North this weekend for the All-Ireland semi-finals and finals and everybody in the club wishes them well in their endeavours. There should be a great weekend in store should they return with the ultimate prize but if not, they can take heart from their achievements to date. Anybody who is in a position to go along to support the team is encouraged to do so and help fly the flag for Templemore at national level.
At home this Friday the open singles continues and on Sat and Sun we have another round of the order of merit with a timesheet for the Sunday slots. The Club matchplay has progressed well and at this stage we have Donal Golden to play the winner of the Tim Connolly/ John Gorman match and the other semi-final between John Stapleton and Dessie Hennessy.
