The Munster Juvenile U/9 to U/13 Indoor Championships was held in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th February. Results not available at time of going to press but will be included here next week.
The Munster Schools Cross Country Championships was held in CIT on Thursday 17th February. Tipperary Schools produced excellent results when they won 5 out of 8 team titles up for grabs on the day. Tipperary did a double in the Minor Boys & Girls team competition with the Ursuline, Thurles & the CBS, Thurles both coming out on top. In the Junior Girls, the Ursuline, Thurles claimed gold with the Presentation, Thurles winning bronze. In the Intermediate Boys, The High School Clonmel claimed the title while in the Senior Girls, the honours went to the Presentation, Thurles with the Ursuline, Thurles winning bronze. Individual athletes who did very well on the day were:- Aoife Delargy, Laura Costello, Eimear Loughman (all Ursuline Thurles) & Nicola Loughnane, Presentation, Thurles who were 4th, 5th 6th & 8th in the Minor Girls 2000m; Rory Purcell & Sean Moloney, both Thurles C.B.S. who came 2nd & 4th in the Minor Boys 2500m; Ciara Cummins, Ursuline Thurles, Orlaith Moynihan, Loreto Clonmel & Eileen Rafter, Ursuline Thurles who came 2nd, 6th & 7th in the Junior Girls 2500m; Aoife Laste, Loreto Clonmel who came 7th in the Intermediate Girls 3000m; Sean Tobin, High School Clonmel who came 1st in the Intermediate Boys 5000m; Eimear Kennedy & Maeve Curley, both Presentation Thurles & Fiona McEnery, Ursuline Thurles who came 5th, 8th & 9th in the Senior Girls 2500m. Another very successful Workshop was given by National AAI Coach Chris Regan in Moyne Pavilion on Wednesday 16th February. This Workshop covered Sprints with over 50 athletes & 20 parents/coaches taking part & we thank Chris Regan for his time & expertise & our County Development Officer, Billy Purcell for arranging this workshop & many others over the coming months. Congratulations to Aoife Bartley, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. who received the Tipperary Star Award at the Tipperary Crystal Juvenile Star Awards Banquet in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone on Saturday 12th February. These awards celebrate the best & most successful athletes from all counties of Ireland & are chosen by the Juvenile Committee of Athletics Ireland. Well done to Aoife & we wish her every success in 2011.
