Sympathy

Sympathy

The death occurred at South Tipperary General Hospital on Thursday 22nd February of Joan Cummins (nee Sayers), Mayfield, Cashel. She was a native of Fethard and was predeceased by her husband Billy who died in June 2008.

In her younger days before her marriage, she worked as a telephonist in Roscommon and Fethard. On arrival in Mayfield like many families from that area of Cashel parish, the Cummins family were always associated with Dualla and formed part of our parish community. Family was very important to Joan and as a devoted wife and mother she was the heart of the home in Mayfield. Above all she was a great woman of faith and then as the years went by with the arrival of grandchildren she was a source of great inspiration for them. They in turn cherished her company and were devoted to her.

Following the death of Billy her young grandson, Craig Ryan from Rosegreen left his home each night to stay in Mayfield so as not to leave his grandmother bereft of company. Then when ill health set in, she went to nearby Willowbrook Nursing Home for about a year before moving to St Patricks Hospital, Cashel.

On Friday, 23rd February, her remains were reposing at her daughter Ursula Ryan’s residence in Knockentemple, Rosegreen and on Saturday morning were removed to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Dualla. After Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr. Joe Egan PP and assisted by Fr Christy O’Dwyer, Dean of Cashel. Fr. Bernie Moloney PP Emly, Fr. Tom Dunne CC Boherlahan Dualla, Fr. Tom Breen PP Fethard, Fr. Jerry Horan, Augustinian Friary Fethard and Fr. Enda Brady CC Rosegreen, interment took place in adjoining cemetery.

She is survived by her two sons Jimmy and John and daughters Majella Lynch and Ursula Ryan. Also by Declan Lynch and Donal Ryan (sons-in-law), Muriel and Martina Cummins (daughters-in-law), brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is extended.

Peace to her soul.
