The late Annie McGrath, Farney Bridge, Holycross

Recent Deaths in Kilkenny

It was with much regret that we received the news of the death of Annie McGrath, Farney Bridge, Holycross. She will be sadly missed by her sons Pat, Michael, Thomas and Anthony, daughters Anne and Helen and extended family to whom we extend our sympathy. Annie was widow of the late Mick McGrath who predeceased her some years ago. Annie moved to Dublin to be closer to her family but returned to Farney every other weekend. She was of a kind and generous nature, friendly disposition and was great with the banter. She was a great cook and was renowned for her apple tarts – whenever there was any social event held in the village and the local ladies were asked to bring some confectionery Annie was sure to bring along an apple tart which was then hidden in the kitchen and only produced later in the day so that the ladies doing the catering were able to enjoy it. Annie’s remains were brought home to Farney where she was waked before being brought to Holycross Abbey for Requiem Mass and burial in the adjoining cemetery. Peace to her kindly soul.
