Greg Broderick on board Going Global
Tipperary's Greg Broderick has failed to come through the second round of the showjumping at the Rio Olympics with five penalty points to his name after his horse MHS Going Global put a toe in a water jump.
The Drom-Inch man needed to finish in the top 45 in order to qualify for today's jump-off which qualifies riders to jump in Friday's final. However, the Ballypatrick Stables rider has not qualified and will not proceed to the next round - a huge disappointment for him after such a great jumping round.
There have been many tributes paid to Greg and his horse on social media and in his locality with the general theme being that he did his parish, his county and his country proud in Rio. Understandably, Greg is very disappointed but this is down to the very high standards he has set himself.
The journey to Tokyo in four years time now begins, but in the meantime Greg will return to a heroes welcome in The Ragg very soon.
