Fine Gael’s Deputy Noel Coonan said the Mid-West region will benefit greatly from the announcement that US company Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is creating a biopharmaceutical facility in Limerick resulting in 300 jobs.
Deputy Coonan said the $300 million investment will also create circa 600 construction jobs which is a significant boost for the region.
“This is a massive investment in the former DELL site in Raheen Business Park. Multinational companies are again investing with confidence in Ireland,” said Deputy Coonan.
“In the broader Mid-West region, in which North Tipperary is located, the decline in jobs over the years 2008-2010 was a staggering 19,300 under the previous Government. However in 2012, the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, and the County Enterprise Board, supported 237 companies who employ over 2,800 people in North Tipperary.
“I have been reassured by my colleague and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton that IDA Ireland will continue to work with all its client companies in North Tipperary and the Mid-West region in order to ensure their long term sustainability and encourage their growth, development, broadening of their mandate and continual re-investment in their sites within the region,” said Deputy Coonan.
