North Tipperary waterways are in line for a welcome tourism boost this summer following news that popular leisure facility 'Aqua Splash' will return to Dromineer in May.
Aqua Splash Water Park, located on the shores of Lough Derg in Dromineer, attracted thousands of children and their parents to the lakeside village in 2016 and organisers are hoping to increase tourist numbers again this year through offering additional amenities including kayaking tours of the area, stand up paddle boarding and canoeing facilities.
Organisers say they hope to have the "floating playground" up and running by May, weather dependent, where it is expected to operate until the last week of August.
Up to 11 jobs are expected to be created through the project with positions for lifeguards and kayak instructors already being advertised.
The popular tourism attraction failed to run last summer after additional planning conditions imposed by Tipperary County Council left the operators of Aqua Splash with a significantly shortened season to run the activity.
However Aqua Splash have since been given the green light by the council to go ahead with plans to run the water park this summer after agreeing to make a contribution of €15,000 towards the building of new toilets in Dromineer.
