Nenagh's Collison brothers are Munster's richest business people

Brothers Patrick and John Collison

Top tech brothers Patrick and John Collison have been named as Munster's highest business earned in this year's Sunday Times Rich List.

The brothers, who grew up in Dromineer, are worth €2.4bn through their online payment company Stripe.

Patrick and John attended Gaelscoil Urmhumhan in Nenagh before completing their secondary education in Castletroy College in Limerick.

Their parents, Denis and Lily, ran the former Sail Inn hotel and restaurant in Dromineer on Lough Derg for a number of years.

The brothers run Stripe, a worldwide business that employs around 900 people. It is headquartered in San Francisco, where it was established in 2010.

The company recently announced it was taking on extra staff at its Dublin offices through a new engineering hub.

Also on the list from Munster are horse owner and investor JP McManus, who comes in behind the Collisons with €1.156bn, an increase of €77m.

The brothers even beat top racehorse owner and breeder John Magnier, who comes in with €1.099bn, a rise of €10m over the past year.
