Tipperary pupils at Mount St Joseph, Tullow, 1960

Tipperary pupils at Mount St Joseph, Tullow, 1960

This photograph was taken in 1960 on the steps of Mount St. Joseph, Tullow, Co Carlow which was the juniorate (college for the brotherhood) of the Patrician Brothers in Ireland. The school is now the well known Mount Wolseley Hotel Spa & Golf Resort. The boys included in the photo are all from Co Tipperary. It was hoped that these students would become Patrician Brothers. Some of the boys did and the rest left. The Brother in the middle is Brother Austin McCarthy of Bofana, Killenaule. His brother was Brother Vincent who at the time was President of Ballyfin College in Co Laois which is now the 5 Star luxury country house hotel Ballyfin. Brother Austin is flanked by two Mullinahone boys. On his left is Roger Curran who later became C.E.O. of Kilkenny VEC. On his right is Ricky Sheehan who is very well known in GAA circles.
Do you recognise anybody in the photo? If you have any details on any of the boys pictured please contact the Tipperary Star by email: sinead.goldsboro@tipperarystar.ie or tel: 0504 29118 as the person who submitted the photo is curious about what happened to his classmates from 1960.
