South Tipperary Fine Gael TD Tom Hayes has issued an invite to Julian King, British Ambassador to Ireland, to visit Cashel and South Tipperary as a way of acknowledging the one year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II visiting the town.
Her Majesty stopped off at the Rock of Cashel on the last day of her 4 day State Visit in May.
“I have issued this invitation to acknowledge the historic occasion that was the Queen’s visit to Cashel. Not only was her state visit important for our relationship with the UK, but it was pivotal in boosting tourism numbers to Ireland. At the Rock of Cashel alone we have seen a huge increase in British visitors to the site since the visit, with numbers in 2011 greatly exceeding those in 2010.
