Four lucky Tipperary people and their guests were whisked away to beautiful San Francisco by the National Lottery as winners of the Winning Streak TV Gameshow.
The four - Liz Brophy and her husband, David, Gortnahoe; Philly Gohery and her husband, Barry, Nenagh; Louise Glasheen, Tipperary Town, and her mother, Mary, and Josephine Dunne and her husband, Gerry, from Carrick-on-Suir - joined 40 other winners for a six-day visit that included €2,500 in spending money.
During their visit they went wine tasting in Sonoma, and had a gala dinner in St Francis Yacht Club, which has unrivalled views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The club has a link with Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer with former councillor and Nenagh Mayor Virginia O’Dowd having swapped club flags with the Bay Area club during a visit to California in 2009.
Liz and David Brophy celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on the return flight from San Francisco on August 28.
Originally from County Kilkenny, they moved to Thurles eight years ago with David’s work and have three children, Alex, 10; Jake, 13, and Kirsty, 17.
Liz, a big Kilkenny supporter, played camogie for Grennan College in Thomastown. Philly and Barry Gohery are married nine years and have one son Eoghan, who is four-and-a-half and started school the day after they returned from San Francisco.
Philly works in administration at Sheehan’s Hardware, nenagh, and the trip more than made up for Barry losing out on his 40th birthday treat - tickets to Garth Brooks in Croke Park.Louise Glasheen travelled with her mother Mary. Louise, who has two brothers, Anthony and Brian, and one sister Ciara, loves hurling and walking. Louise was in Australia for six months a few years ago and her mother visited for a month.
