Tourism for the greater Thurles area is to be debated at the next meeting of Thurles Town Council following a call from Councillor Jim Ryan.
The Independent Councillor was highly critical of the exposure Thurles tourist providers are getting on national and local websites and said that there is little effort being made to promote the region. The Ireland.com and Discover Ireland websites do not mention Thurles or it’s attractions, Cllr Ryan said and he looked for funding to be directed towards employing somebody on a temporary basis to up-date social media which would push the town and the region.
“We are falling way behind and I feel that if we directed some of the funds we are providing to Thurles.ie towards a project like this, it would be far more benefitial,” he said.
He received support for his call and the matter will be on the agenda for March.
