Derelict sites are growing out of control in Cashel, with dangerous weeds and ragwort growing up near Hanley’s Field.
“People going to Funerals are absolutely disgusted,” said Cllr Eddie Bennett. “Something has to be done before the Tidy Towns’ judges visit Cashel.” Cllr Bennett also criticised the new local government reforms. “We’re going to suffer from a serious democratic deficit in Cashel with the new boundaries,” he told Cashel Town Council.
*Meanwhile, Ireland is the only country in the EU which fluoridates tap water as a matter of course, observed Cllr Martin Browne (SF). “This has been government policy since 1962,” said Staff Officer Mairéad Ryan. “Under EU regulations we can be held responsible (for the public’s health),” replied Cllr Browne. Town Manager Séan Keating said there is a “divergence of views” at government level regarding the wisdom of fluoridation. “The most up-to-date view is that we should continue the process.”
