“Grow a gift” Green Shooters

Students from Ursuline Convent Thurles have formed a new mini company which has shown great potential and growth since its creation.

The mini company “Green Shooters” has been created by transition year students from the school as part of their mini company project. The company was formed by the girls in a an effort to help the school obtain its fifth green flag award. The business is run by five girls, Ciara Quinlan, Aoife O Sullivan, Aoibhinn O’Donnel, Sinead Callihan and Ciara Coffey along with the aid of their teacher Anne Marie Bourke. The girls create all their “grow a gift” products from their school and market the plants themselves.

The aim of the company is to promote biodiversity and show people how easy it is to grow and plant flowers or even herbs. The company specialises in plants and herbs that can be shared as a gift to others with their product “Grow a Gift”. The materials for the gift consist of a flower pot, a flower bulb or a herb seed and a packet of soil whcih all come in a beautifully wrapped box. To help raise awareness on the importance of biodiversity, students have also enclosed a set of instructions with each gift outlining how to nourish and take care of the plant.

The five girls recently sold items from their herb range, which sells all year round in the shopping centre in Thurles on Tuesday morning 21st of January. The girls sold both basil and parsley herbs ranging from the price of €2, The business also provides for a range of special occasions including Valentine’s day, Saint Patrick’s day and Christmas where they sold daffodils to the public at Thurles farmers market.

We wish this growing business continued success and all the best with their future endeavours.
