John Lupton of the Roscrea Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the new Regional President of the Mid-West Region of the Society, comprising Tipperary, Clare, Offaly and Limerick.
As Regional President he is one of the 14 Trustees of the Society in the 32 county Ireland who together comprise the National Management Council. He stresses that as Regional President his “priority and focus is, and must always be, those, who are in need, the marginalised, isolated and disempowered and in that context the voluntary members and staff of SVP in the Region who go to them and seek to address their needs with immediate relief and seek also to examine the underlying causes, through which such need arises, and work towards eliminating such causes.”
The Mid West Regional Council also includes two Vice-Presidents in the persons of Pat Carroll formerly President of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference in Nenagh and Barry Tobin from Limerick who is also the outgoing Regional Vice-President. While Pat Carroll will support the Area Structures and Conferences in Limerick and Clare, Barry Tobin will do likewise in Tipperary and Offaly. Roscrea’s Tony Brennan will serve as Regional Treasurer while the Rev. Dr. Tom Corbett will be the Spiritual Director for the Regional Council. Mr Lupton will be replaced as Area President for the North Tipperary Area by Patricia Gleeson, former President of St. Cronan’s Conference Roscrea, who has emerged from the election process to be Area President for the North Tipperary Area.The Mid West Region of St. Vincent de Paul includes almost ninety visitation Conferences, 15 shops, hostels and drop-in centres, units of Social Housing and Special Works Conferences. The Region, comprising all of the counties of Tipperary, Clare, Offaly and Limerick is broken into nine Areas, with the Area President of each sitting on the Regional Council. The Areas are Clare, Limerick West, Limerick East, Limerick City, Offaly, North Tipperary, & Mid, West Tipperary & South Tipperary.
