As has been the practice over the past number of years, groups from Premilhat, France and Potenza Picena, Italy (our Twin Towns), will arrive in Templemore to celebrate our St Patrick’s Day festivities. A group from the local Twinning Association will travel to Premilhat in late March.
Meawnhile 10 students from Our Lady’s Secondary School are currently preparing for their visit to France. Three Transition students and seven Fifth Year students will travel to Premilhat, on Thursday 5th March and will return on Monday 9th.
The students will stay with host families for the duration of the trip which will give them an opportunity to experience French culture and improve their French oral skills.
They will attend school on the Friday and visit Prémilhat and Montluçon on the Saturday, while Sunday will be spent with the families. The students have been in contact with their French correspondents for several months at this stage.
The French students will make a return visit to Templemore next year. Several exchange visits have been made down through the years between students studying French at Our Lady’s and students from Prémilhat and as a result lifelong friendships have been established.
It is a wonderful opportunity for students of French to put their French into practise, experience the language outside of the classroom and also improve their spoken and listening skills in French.
Sinead Harding (French Teacher) will be travelling with the students and Siobhan Bailey who is a past pupil of Our Lady’s and currently studying French in college is also going on the trip.
