The first snow of the winter was encountered by our A group on Greenane Mountain as they walked the Galtees on Sunday last.
The walk started at Glengarra where they met some old friends from the Ballyhoura Bears and the group of 6 made their way through forest tracks before finding a new route out of the wood to the open mountain. Once on the exposed ground the weather turned wet with biting winds, which led to the decision to do a shorter loop than planned. This 14km route brought them up the ridge to Greenane and O’Loughlin’s Castle before following a stream back to the forest line and the return to the cars. Thanks to Tom Lyons for this walk arranged at short notice.
