North Tipperary county councillor Virginia O’Dowd has welcomed newly released figures showing that more students are staying on to do the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams in North Tipperary.
The figures were released in a Department of Education report last week and relate to students who sat their exams in either 2012 or 2013.
“During my teaching career, I always encouraged students to complete their exam cycle, whether it be Junior Certificate or Leaving Certificate. I saw this as essential for them to equip themselves with vital learning skills and gave a certificate to pursue further studies or make them attractive to a potential employer,” she said.
“I am delighted with the numbers staying on in North Tipperary schools. The figures show that 98 per cent of students completed their Junior Certificate while 92 per cent sat their Leaving Certificate. These are among the highest rates in the country,” said Cllr O’Dowd.
