Minister Alan Kelly is asking the Tipperary public to support the Stability Treaty this Thursday.
He said ‘I am asking the public across Tipperary to vote yes to the Stability Treaty. I do so because I believe as a country we need to pass this treaty and then move on to rebuilding this country. We need to pass it because it gives us an insurance policy should we need to borrow money again in the future to pay for nurses, teachers, doctors and public servants. We need to pass it in order to protect inward investment and grow our exports internationally through supporting the Euro. We need to pass it to ensure there are fiscal controls put in place so that Governments across Europe work within budgetary boundaries. Finally, we need to send a signal to the EU and the world that Ireland is working towards regaining its economic sovereignty and is taking decisions that will ensure we can continue on that path. Passing this treaty will not solve Ireland’s problems but it will be a step in the right direction’.
