The inaugural AGM of An Chúige Theas, Ireland South Cúige of Sinn Féin, was attended by a large gathering of TDs, Seanadoirí, MEP, Councillors and party members in Cahir House Hotel on Saturday last.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams slammed the Tánaiste’s record in government. Labelling her as an “architect of austerity”, he linked the Programme for Government – which she negotiated – with the emigration of almost 500,000 Irish citizens. He was delivering the keynote address for the meeting in Cahir, while the Labour Party and its leader attended their conference in Killarney. Deputy Adams warned against the “next election campaign descending into auction politics with establishment parties seeking to outbid each other in terms of unsustainable and irresponsible tax cuts and election promises they will not keep”.
