This festival has proved to be a great asset to Thurles and has certainly placed the town on the map as a place to visit during the Halloween holidays.

Chairman of the organising committee, Cllr Jim Ryan told The Tipperary Star that despite a big reduction in the level of funding available to the committee, an exciting programme of events has been produced with something for everyone to enjoy.

“We have a wide variety of events taking place during the 8 days including drama, comedy, classical music, street entertainment, family shows, workshops, live music, crafts, literature, talks, fireworks display, fancy dress parties, scarecrow trail and much more,” he said.

Councillor Ryan added that the committee is really excited about this years festival and especially the Scare in the Square Family Funday on Saturday 25th in Liberty Square, Thurles from 12pm to 4pm.

“This is going to be a great day with a Halloween market, lie music and much more happening on the day. Of course our usual spectacular fireworks Display will again take place on Halloween night at Thurles Rugby Club,” Councillor Ryan said.

Secretary of the committee Cllr David Doran would like to thanks all of the sponsors and volunteers without whom this festival could not take place. He would also like to thank the people of Thurles for their generous support during the recent church gate collection and all previous fundraising events during the year.

“Without the help of all of these people and the support we receive locally, it would not be possible to stage the Festival every year. This has gone from strength to strength and it is down to the level of support from everyone. We are very grateful for that and we hope that everyone will come along and really enjoy the many events we have planned,” Cllr Doran said.

Brochures have been distributed around Thurles and surrounding villages and full details on the festival can be obtained by visiting or ringing 086 2397376
