Meeting With County Manager

Roscrea Chamber of Commerce delegates look forward to meeting the new County Manager Mr Joe McGrath early in the New Year. The meeting will have a strong focus on town development which will include signage, the construction of a new coach park and a plan for the rear of Main Street. The Chamber will also be looking for an update on the proposed heritage trail and support for the new Walkers Club and a commitment from the Council to help with capital expenditure that will be needed in 2011 to upgrade the Christmas lights. Chamber President John Guilfoyle said he was very encouraged by recent conversations with the County Manager who he said was very committed to helping the Chamber with it's objectives for Roscrea. If you would like to add anything to the agenda please contact Chamber Secretary, Brian King before Monday, January 10th.

New Walking Club

Secretary, Brian King reported on what he described as one of the most positive meetings he has had this year with Cathal MacNioclis representing the new Roscrea Walking Club. He said Cathal had informed him of three proposed walking routes that the club were looking to develop. The golden grove, monaincha area and a walking route along the Brosna are very much to the forefront of the new club's plans. It is also envisaged that a number of walking festivals for the area would be explored as part of the plans. Representatives from the group are working with a number of agencies such as Leader to help with funding. The Chamber is represented on the Leader Group by Brian King and John Guilfoyle both of whom have pledged their support for this project. All Chamber members particularly those involved directly in the tourism industry are encouraged to attend the Roscrea Walking Club open night on January 5th at 8pm in the Damer Court Hotel.

Michael Tiernan Development

Michael Tiernan was officially congratulated by the Chamber after commencing work on Roscrea's new town centre. The €20 million investment is the culmination of twenty years of commitment to Roscrea by Tiernan Properties. The development which consists of a new retail centre and town plaza is expected to be completed in late summer/early autumn 2011.

The Chamber hopes to organise a presentation for at least every second monthly meeting in 2011. If anyone knows of any business, group, speaker(s) etc that would be interested in addressing Chamber members, please contact Chamber Secretary, Brian King.
