The Roscrea People of The Year Awards 2010 sponsored by Roscrea Credit Union and Bernie's Super Valu will take place on Wednesday January 12th 2011 at the Damer Court Hotel. The awards night will commence at 7.30pm and all are invited to attend.

The 2010 recipients, represent almost all aspects of our society including work, sport, voluntary and cultural. All the recipients will have helped in some way big or small to make Roscrea a better and more positive town for us to live in and to enjoy.

Recently retired, John Byrne, who has served his community with distinction in both his professional capacity as local Garda as well as the tremendous contribution he has made to local organisations such as the Tidy Towns, will receive an award. Joining John will be The Roscrea Branch Of The Irish Wheelchair Association" who celebrated 50 years service in 2010 and Colaiste Phobal who receive an award for their first green flag. Bill Hanly from Parkmore Heights will receive an award for his commitment every year in organising and leading the Lions holiday week for senior citizens. Paul Spencer from Roscrea Musical Society will receive an award in recognition of the honour bestowed upon him by "Aims" for best comedian in 2010 and Alan Eastwood who served his country on the national cricket team will also receive an award in January.

The Roscrea People Citations for people that have previously revived a "Roscrea People Award" and now deserve further recognition will go to All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil winner, Darragh Carey-Kennedy and Roscrea Musical Society who celebrated 70 years of musicals in Roscrea by staging a great show in "Guys & Dolls" and receiving the AIMS award for best programme.

The awards which were first staged in 1987 receive great support every year. Admission is by voluntary donation with profits donated to various Roscrea People projects.
