Roscrea Chamber of Commerce is due to meet with County Council officials this week, to discuss the possible return of free Saturday parking.
The Chamber has had a number of meetings recently with the Council, said Secretary Brian King. “It’s looking at various different proposals. These proposals have been discussed at Chamber meetings over the past three months. There will now be a public consultation process to gather feedback from the wider circle of businesses in the town, and once those thoughts are received, we will meet with the Council again, and form a conclusion.” Mr King said he would personally favour some kind of free parking on Saturdays. “I’d like to see a return of Saturday as being the traditional shopping day, as it was in years past. I think if we had free parking on Saturday - or some part of the day, be it in the morning or the afternoon - it might bring footfall back on to the streets on what traditionally used the busiest day in the week, and bring a bit of vibrancy back into the town.”
