Many thanks to the Community Employees who agreed to undertake the cleaning and painting of the derelict house at the Traffic lights.
This house has been the source of much stress to many over the past few years, and at last it has been brought up to an acceptable standard for a Heritage town. Well done lads. There are many more premises in town in need of similar treatment, especially when one looks at most of the corner buildings along the streets. Roscrea is overflowing with community spirit as we have seen over the past few months, with volunteers out day and night attending to unkept areas where it is possible for them. But a lot more needs to be done to bring Roscrea to the standard of similar size towns that we are competing with in the Tidy Towns competition.
Projects – 2013
A few projects where work commenced back in March and April, and looked positive for this year’s adjudication are now very disappointing as they are overgrown, and neglected looking again. Perhaps we should put up a sign “Uncut for Wildlife” in those areas.
Coláiste Phobal Environmental Garden
Work is continuing on this project by the Tidy Towns volunteers while the school is closed for the Summer months, and the second stage will include an arch at the entrance, and a bridge over the “Frog friendly pond”. This work will commence in September, thanks to Super Valu who have provided funding to meet the cost of this proposed work. The Community employees will also commence work on rebuilding the stone wall in the next few weeks.
