Tipperary rent review: protest in Nenagh over Tipperary County Council increases

A public protest will be held outside the Civic Offices in Nenagh this Wednesday against Tipperary County Council's rent review.

The review was carried out earlier this summer and has led to a backlash against the council from councillors and tenants over the manner in which it was implemented.

The review was aimed at harmonising rents in the north and south of the county following the amalgamation of North Tipperary County Council and South Tipperary County Council after the last local elections in 2015.

However, the review has meant a substantial increase for some tenants, particularly in the north of the county.

A campaign against the rent increases has been spearheaded by Nenagh's Cllr Seamus Morris and Roscrea community activist Mike Edwards, with public meetings being held in both towns.

This Wednesday's protest in Nenagh will commence at 10am and last until 1pm.

According to organiser Mr Edwards, a number of councillors will attend and one Tipperary TD has confirmed his participation.
