Sunshine makes a comback

Met Éireann forecasts warm sunshine.

Tipperary is set to bask in sunshine in the coming days as temperatures are set to reach 18C today before a sun-soaked weekend where it will be hotter than Mexico.

The mercury will gradually soar over the coming days, with Met Eireann predicting highs "in the mid twenties, sometimes higher."

Some forecasters say thermometers could hit 30C or more in parts, which would leave Ireland hotter than Mexico where highs of 22C are forecast for this weekend.

Met Eireann said in their seven day outlook: "Mostly dry, settled weather in store. Some cool nights over the weekend, but becoming progressively milder by day and sunnier also. Warm, sometimes hot well into next week, with good spells of hazy sunshine by day."

Today though will be an average day weather-wise with a mixture of sunshine and showers.

The national forecaster said: "Today will be a fresh day, in moderating northwest to northerly breezes. Some sunny spells at times, but some cloudy periods too and dry apart from the odd light shower in northern areas. Top temperatures 14C to 18C, best in southern coastal counties."

Looking ahead to tomorrow, they said: "Friday, will be another fresh day. Some sunny spells at times in all areas, but occasional cloudy periods too. Top temperatures 16 to 20 C., best values in east Munster and south Leinster."

This weekend sounds to have a stellar forecast. The weather chiefs said: "Saturday will be a dry, mild day. Some sunny spells, but some cloudy periods too. Top afternoon temperatures 19 to 21 C., with values a little lower on some coasts, due to onshore sea breezes. Cool, but dry overnight, with lows of 6 to 9 C.

"Warm on Sunday with temperatures in the low twenties in many places. Some warm spells of sunshine too, but the sunshine is likely to become more hazy in nature. Light variable winds, but moderate in local sea breezes."

Talking about next weekend, Met Eireann added: "Warm or hot well into next week, with temperatures in the mid twenties, sometimes higher. Spells of hazy sunshine each day, but with the risk of some sea mist developing in some coastal areas and maybe a few thundery showers towards midweek."
