A Nenagh man caught twice with cannabis within a short space of time was using the drug for pain relief, the local court was told.
Karim Gleeson, 22, of Benedine, Nenagh, pleaded to possession of €20 worth of cannabis at Shalee Cross, Nenagh, on June 3, 2017. He pleaded to the same offence at Ormond Street, Nenagh, on August 12, 2017.
The court heard that Mr Gleeson's car was stopped by Gardai at Shalee Cross and cannabis was found in the roof panel.
The cannabis was in the car's ash tray on August 12.
His solicitor, Elizabeth McKeever, said Mr Gleeson had been in a serious accident some time back and used the drug for pain relief.
“Obviously it is not legal and something he should not do,” she said.
Fining him €100 for the offence on August 12, Judge Elizabeth MacGrath said Mr Gleeson would “have to find other ways of dealing with pain”.
