The Age Friendly Roscrea Security, Safety and Social Event took place on May 2nd in Racket Hall. The Event opened with the launch of ‘Emergency Information’ fridge magnet. This magnet was funded by Citizens Information, HSE, An Garda Siochana, Tipperary Fire Service and Tipperary Co Co. The magnet, a simple idea, but a practical and effective way of having critical information to hand.- For further information contact Age Friendly Roscrea on 083 1133987.

There were a number of information stands at the event including fire safety and security. Local Sgt Mark Kelly, recently appointed Superintendent David Nolan and Chief Superintendent Catherine Keogh addressed the gathering. Garda Michele Murphy gave a presentation on general security information, Lorraine Dolan spoke about SAGE - the National organisation that provides advocacy for older adults and Denise Cusack spoke about phone scams.

The large attendance enjoyed an afternoon of music, song, dancing and a couple of great yarns – provided by Jimmy Quinlan and Anthony Bourke together with Dinny Quirke, Bill Smith, Geraldine Campion and Noel Sheridan. Jim Kennedy, the Rosie Greys and Noel Joyce, Storyteller made guest appearances.

Age Friendly Roscrea appreciates and acknowledges the immense support we receive, we are especially grateful to our entertainers on the day, to the management and staff of Racket Hall Hotel, Stapleton’s Bakery, Bernie Teehan of Creative Catering, Andrew Walsh and Local Links and all the volunteers who helped at the event. The next Dementia conversation will take place on Wednesday 16th May at 10am in the Courthouse.

There is an open invitation to this conversation, especially those with a vested interest. On May 22nd the Rosie Greys will travel to the shores of Lough Derg to join the Cloughjordan Melotones for an early morning concert to celebrate Bealtaine. The Rosie Greys meet Wednesday afternoons at 3 pm in the Courthouse. New members welcome.
