Tipperary farmers get an opportunity to work, earn and learn in New Zealand

Padraig Madden of FRS greets Loren Greensill on her arrival to work in Ireland

FRS Farm Relief Services, leading provider of farm workers in Ireland, and New Zealand Dairy Careers (NZDC), leading farm training and recruitment specialists in New Zealand, have teamed up to provide a unique opportunity.

This will see applicants live the dream, learn on the world’s best farms and further develop their farming skills in each other’s countries during their complementary peak seasons.

The exchange programme will mutually benefit the seasonality of both countries.

Peak farming periods, which is January to June in Ireland and July to December in New Zealand and it also proposes to help with the current storage of labour that each country is experiencing, particularly in the area of dairy farming.

We are now calling on interested candidates in Ireland to apply for the exchange in New Zealand.

The exchange is about developing the skills of young farmers and giving them the exposure to the best farms to provide a unique experience.

Loren Greensill is just one of the New Zealand exchanges that came to Ireland to live, learn and earn.

Loren worked through the harsh weather in Cork, but did so with such a positive attitude, which her host farmer James Murphy commended on her for.

Loren said: “Things are going really good. I am living with an amazing family and the local community have been very welcoming.

“The exchange is a great opportunity to meet new people, gain new skills and learn a different system.

“It is also a great way to reconnect with the down to earth spirit of farming and the correlation with community spirit and team work.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for young people especially for those wanting to do some travel through Europe as well.”

For Irish applicants, the exchange offers the opportunity of living in the culture rich and beautiful New Zealand, learning the best farming practices and earning a wage to independently experience all that New Zealand has to offer - all with the support of FRS and New Zealand Dairy Careers.

Who we are looking for:

- Irish citizens aged 18-30 with a passion for agriculture and working in the outdoors

- willingness to learn and to share knowledge

- experience working with livestock essential

- experience in milking, calf rearing and tractor-driving desirable
