Young Fine Gael (YFG) the youth wing of the Fine Gael party are holding their 29th National Conference this weekend (23rd -25th March) in the Ballykisteen Hotel in Limerick Junction, Co. Tipperary.
The event will see hundreds of young people aged between 15 and 35 debating policy, discussing motions and electing a new executive to lead the organisation. The Tanaiste, Simon Coveney and the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar will both be in attendance over the weekend along with Senior Ministers, TD’s, Senators and Cllrs.
Declan Burgess, the Local representative on the organising committee commented “ I’m thrilled that YFG selected Tipperary to host this years National Conference. I’m excited to welcome hundred of YFG members to the Premier County. Its great that I was able to help organise the conference and the West-Tipperary business will benefit”.
The outgoing president of YFG, Marian O’Donnell from Cahir, commented ‘I’m really looking forward to the weekend and welcoming my fellow YFG members to Tipperary. The weekend is all about youth politics and policy and it is fantastic to have the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and many other members of Government here to listen to our ideas and hear what young people have to say.
Garret Aherne, the newly selected General Election Candidate for FG in Tipperary commented “I would like to welcome YFG to Tipperary this weekend. The fact that they choose tipperary as the location for their National conference shows that they recognise the importance of Tipperary to Fine Gael at the next General Election. I want to congratulate the outgoing President Marian O’Donnell on her stewardship of the organisation over the past two years. She has represented YFG brilliantly on the international stage as well as national. I want to also thank YFG for choosing Tipperary to hold their National Conference and wish everyone a fantastic weekend.’
Commenting on her time as President of the organisation Marian O’Donnell said it has been a great honour and a privilege to be the President of YFG since being elected in November 2016. “It was a fantastic experience and over the term we achieved so much in lobbying and campaigning on different issues. I’m looking forward to handing the reins over to a new team and know that the organisation is only going from strength to strength.”
