Manus Heenan, a Transition Year Student at Cistercian College Roscrea, was awarded the top prize of €500 in the senior category at the Co Offaly final of this year's Student Enterprise Awards which took place on Thursday March 8th at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
Abbey Bread, a yeast bread mix, inspired by the bread baked for generations by the Cistercian Monks at Mount St Joseph Abbey, has already achieved great success since it was launched last November.
This award recognises the entrepreneurial skills, creativity and innovation Manus has shown in developing his project.
The Student Enterprise Programme is Ireland’s biggest student enterprise competition and is organised by the Local Enterprise Offices in each County. Students take part in this Programme by setting up and running their own student business, and is designed to encourage young people to explore entrepreneurship.
Manus now progresses to the National Finals to be held in Croke Park on May 2nd.
