The curtain has come down on the life of renowned theatre man Dan Gallagher who left lifes stage peacefully at the age of 92.

His passing is greatly regretted in Thurles and in drama circles throughout the country

The passing of Waterford native Dan Gallagher, who has been resident in Thurles for many years, has occasioned great sadness in The Cathedral Town he came to call home.

A very prominent member of Thurles Drama Group with whom he starred on so many occasions on stage, Dan passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in the presence of family and friends.

Living in Hillview Drive, Thurles, Dan and his wife Breda were very highly regarded in the community and he was considered a valued neighbour and friend to many. His pleasant smile, outgoing demeanour and easy conversation made him a joy to meet and spend a few moments with, especially for those who had an interest in theatre - Dan had encyclopedic knowledge of all shows, drama and everything to do with the theatre in general. He travelled the country attending drama and musical theatre and was always so encouraging and supportive of groups and individuals who had taken to the boards.

Dan's passing is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Breda; daughters Mary (Cooke) and Eileen (O’ Donoghue); sons Barry and Donal; grandchildren Kevin, Ciarán, Kate, Jack, Cillian, Chloe and Robin; sons-in-law Martin and Aidan; daughters-in-law Marie and Medbh; nephews; nieces; brothers-in-law; sister-in-law; extended relatives; carers; neighbours and many good friends including the many members, past and present, of Thurles Drama Group - the group only recently launched their wonderful  history book 'Them was Days' in which Dan featured prominently throughout the pages.

Dan will lie in repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, tomorrow evening Thursday, December 14th, from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, before arriving at the Cathedral of The Assumption, Thurles at 7.30pm.

Requiem Mass will take place on Friday morning, December 15th, at 11.00am, followed by burial immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Note Please: Family flowers only, donations in lieu, if desired, to Cameo Care Thurles.
