Mo Chara

It seems the cold weather has brought us an avalanche of puppies!

Firstly, last month we welcomed Pumpkin, a beautiful, gentle lurcher girl after the South Tipperary dog warden reached out to us for aid. Pumpkin was a heavily pregnant bag of bones upon arrival having been abandoned in Tipperary town, she birthed 7 healthy puppies after just a week with us. Mum and pups (5 boys and a girl) are doing really well, Pumpkin is steadily gaining weight and her brood are thriving.

Then came Carey, a poor little terrier mix who came to us from North Tipperary Pound after being rescued from the streets of Nenagh by the kind folks at Carey’s Glass. Carey birthed 5 beautiful puppies while in the North Tipperary Pound – luckily Anne, the pound manager, was at hand to help her through her labour and Mummy and all 5 babies are now safe with us at the rescue and the are flourishing. Carey is undergoing continuous treatment for an awful skin condition but she is a terrific mum and healing well.

Just days after Carey arrived, came the ‘Templemore pups’. In an act that can only be described as deplorable, 5 helpless six week old collie pups were dumped at a vacant property near Templemore. Sadly, before being discovered, one of the poor babies died a terrible death after being hit by a car. The remaining 4 pups arrived with us filthy, crawling with lice and heavily infected with intestinal worms – the worm burden was so severe that one of the 4 passed away the day after arriving with us due to serious intestinal damage. There can be no excuse for the neglect and abandonment of these pups, puppy wormers are affordable – all 5 pups could have been treated for less than ten euros, had the owner reached out to a rescue centre or dog pound there would have been no need to dump them in the first place. The remaining three pups are responding well to treatment and should be ready to find loving homes in just a couple of weeks but the search is ongoing to find the person responsible – if for no other reason than to find their Mum who is no doubt in need of medical care herself.

Shoe Box Appeal

We're asking you to light up Christmas for our rescue animals! We'd love if you could fill a shoe-box with cat or dog goodies and either drop it off at one of our many local drop-off points or if you prefer the personal touch, why not deliver it directly to the dog of your choice on our Open Day? Some of the dogs in our care have never known kindness before arriving at the rescue and seeing the joy a tasty treat or a fun toy can bring is truly something special to behold! For more information or for drop-off locations, please contact 087-6576022.
