Did you know that your used spectacles can give the gift of sight to others? According to WHO, millions of people worldwide have uncorrected vision impairments, eg long-sightedness, short-sightedness and astigmatism.
Many of these vision impairments are quickly diagnosed and easy to treat with corrective lenses.
Still millions of people in developing countries are pushed deeper into poverty simply because they don’t have glasses.
They can’t learn because reading is difficult. They can’t work because they can’t see clearly. Through Lions clubs, spectacles are collected and distributed to centres in England where they are cleaned, graded and prepared for eye camps in Africa, India and Eastern Europe.
Roscrea Lions Club, through the generosity of locals have collected 550 pairs of spectacles in the local pharmacies, churches and Colaiste Phobal, to whom we are very grateful.
These spectacles have been forwarded to third world countries where the recipients are enjoying a better life because of the gift of sight.
