It was party time for the Mooreabbey Milers last week. The club put on a celebration for Stuart Moloney following his European bronze medal success.
Stuart had won bronze in the European Masters Indoor Championships, 3,000m in Ancona, Italy. Mooreabbey Milers members and their supporters came to show their appreciation of Stuart's wonderful achievement. Thanks to all those who baked and decorated for the event. A great evening was had by all.
Munster Athletics have revised their results for the Munster Road Championships which were held on April 3rd in county Clare. It now seems that the Tipperary o/50 men's team will be awarded their silver county medal after all. Our own Willie O'Donoghue is part of that successful county team. Congratulations Willie.
The Great Island 10 Mile race was cancelled last Sunday 9th due to very poor weather conditions. Many of our members had made the journey to Cobh to take part in the race and were disappointed to hear that it was called off. Organisers are hoping to reschedule the event for another date.
The launch of the 2016 Cahir Downhill Half Marathon will be held in Cahir House Hotel this week. Again, iCAN will be the charity partner of the event. Following last year's race, a donation of almost €2,000 was made to this hardworking charity. iCAN supports children who have arthritis in Ireland and their families. 50% of profits go to iCAN and the remainder goes back into local athletics. The event is again kindly sponsored by Cahir Credit Union. Registration for the race is through itsyourrace.com. At €40 the event is great value. Included in the price is registration, technical t-shirt, two course meal, goody bag and physios at the finish line.
The very best of luck to all our members who will compete in the county senior road championships this weekend. The event will be held in Dundrum, county Tipperary at 2.00 pm on Sunday 17th.
Our annual 5 mile road race will take place in Galbally on Friday May 13th at 8.00 pm. This race is the second race of the 2016 Ballyhoura Active Active series. We welcome runners, joggers and walkers. Runners will be chip timed by Premier Timing Systems. Prizes of refreshment will be served in the community centre afterwards.
Mooreabbey Milers AC train every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00 pm in the community field, Galbally. All are welcome to join us. If you can't make it on these evenings, Tricha Blackburn holds her Chi Running class on Monday nights at 7 pm. This takes place in the community field also and cost just €5 per class.
