Portroe 0-13 Nenagh Éire Óg 1-10
A long-range John Sheedy free in second half injury time earned a share of the points for Portroe at a soaking wet Dolla on Sunday.
Éire Óg and Portroe served up a ferocious battle which Portroe deserved to win, but John Sheedy’s men were undone by four poor wides in the final ten minutes of this enthralling, if very low-scoring, affair.
For the Portroe men Noel O’Halloran, Colm Gleeson and Kevin O’Halloran were outstanding while Jimmy Creamer looked a most obvious candidate for the man of the match accolade. Meanwhile Pearse Morris, John Brennan and Hugh Maloney shone out for Éire Óg while Noel Maloney edged a terrific battle with Portroe veteran Dinny Hogan on the edge of the square.
Portroe won the toss and opted to play into the wind in the first half. Indeed, the Portroe lads were superb in the opening half - they out-worked Éire Óg and created the room to fire over some terrific scores.
