Tipperary 2-24 LIT 1-16
Tipperary’s first competitive outing of the new season resulted in a positive outcome at Dolla on Sunday afternoon last as Declan Ryan’s men trouped to a comfortable 11 point win over LIT in the Waterford Crystal first round tie.
A large contingent of spectators made their way to the North Tipperary grounds to see what condition the Premier County senior squad is in – their first outing since the All-Ireland senior hurling final defeat in September. And, it was quite obvious from what they witnessed, that the appetite is back and the necessary hunger to drive on and achieve, is still there.
Yes, it has been a while since we saw the team in competitive action and while word of their strict pre-Christmas training regime had given grounds for great hopes, it’s not until you actually see the players in the flesh, doing their stuff, that ascertions can be made in relation to their state of mind and body. Sunday, suggests that there is a real determination on the part of the players to make amends for 2011. And, a good start will certainly have helped to boost confidence as they get ready for UL in the next round, and ultimately,
Kilkenny in the Allianz NHL opener in Nowlan Park in late February. It would appear that Tipp are intent on hitting Nowlan Park with all guns blazing.
